List of notable Nigerians who tested positive for Coronavirus

The Coronavirus pandemic as at when it initially came into Nigeria, was termed to be the disease for the rich and wealthy, the disease of Nigerian politicians. But is this still the case today?

Anyway, we have complied a list of notable Nigerians who happened to test positive for the Coronavirus disease. On our list, we have:

ABBA KYARI

He was the trusted Chief of Staff to president Muhammadu Buhari. He was said to have contracted the Coronavirus disease on an official trip to Germany in March. Abba Kyari was officially pronounced dead on April 18, 2020 after suffering complications which arose from the Coronavirus disease.


MOHAMMED ATIKU ABUBAKAR

He is the son of Nigeria's former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Mohammed was confirmed positive for Coronavirus on March 19, 2020 in Abuja. However, he stayed for over 40 says in an isolation centre in Abuja before he was confirmed negative of the virus.


BALA MOHAMMED


He was the first Nigerian governor to test positive for the virus after he allegedly had a handshake with Atiku's son. He was confirmed positive on March 25, 2020 and he fully recovered on 9th April, 2020.


CHIOMA ROWLAND


Chioma Rowland, Davido's fiancee is another notable Nigerian who tested positive for Coronavirus. Davido announced his fiancee's status on March 27, 2020 after returning from a trip from the USA. Chioma tested negative on April 19.


SEYI MAKINDE


Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde was also infected with Coronavirus. He tested positive for the virus on March 30th, 2020 after attending a rally organized by PDP in the state. The governor recovered on April 5th.

CHIEF VICTOR IKWUEMESI

Remember the December 2005 Sosoliso plane crash in Nigeria? Well, the founder of the Sosoliso airline is Chief Victor Ikwuemesi. He hails from Anambra state. He died in London on April 14, 2020 after testing positive for the Coronavirus disease.


NASIR EL-RUFAI

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai is another notable Nigerian who tested positive for Coronavirus. He tested positive on March 28 and he stayed in the isolation centre for over two weeks. He was confirmed negative on April 9.


MOHAMMED BABANDEDE

The Nigeria Immigration Service boss tested positive for Coronavirus on March 29, after he returned from the United Kingdom. He was confirmed negative on April 14.


PROF. JESSE OTEGBAYO

He is the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan. He was said to have contracted the virus in a board meeting of the hospital. The UCH chairman tested positive on two different different occasions even after testing negative previously.

As at May 6, 2020, Nigeria has a total number of 2950 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, 2371 are active cases, 481 have been discharged and 98 deaths have been recorded.
