Angry Lagos Catholic priest bans singing of Igbo songs in his church, says Igbos are planning to dominate the church
The Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church Ewu-Owa Gberigbe in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Rev. Fr. James Anelu has banned singing of Igbo songs and choruses in his parish.
Reports gathered says the the priest angrily stopped a chorus during the second collection at mass last Sunday which was sung in Igbo language.
In his anger, the parish priest stood up and stopped the Igbo song saying the Igbos cannot keep dominating other people even in his church. He also sighted the case in Benin Catholic Diocese where Igbos dominated to the point of becoming the Bishop in person on Most. Rev. Akubueze.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has reacted to the banning of Igbo songs by Rev. fr James Anelu.
In a circular signed by the Archbishop of Lagos Archdiocese, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, Fr. James was given an indefinite leave of absence pending when all investigations on the issue will be concluded.
