Main reason Osibanjo said NYSC camps should be closed for two years
Vice President Yemi Osibanjo has called for the suspension of the NYSC orientation camp exercises for two years.
The Senior Special Assistant to the president on Media and Publicity Laolu Akande said this in a tweet on Tuesday while reaching out to the generated by the Economic Sustainability Committee report.
In his tweet, Laolu debunked rumours circulating in the mainstream media that Vice President Osibanjo called for the suspension of the NYSC as a whole.
"Its the paramilitary orientation camping that is being considered to be suspended for at least 24months, not deployment to primary assignments."
He further explained that since all activities in the NYSC orientation camps go against the social distancing rule, the suspension of the camping exercise was recommended to maintain Social Distancing as part of measures to help control the spread of the COVID-19 disease.
