Gist_with_Chadele : RAPE
Rape is a sensitive issue. As much as we often say that the ladies sometimes are the cause of why they are raped but it’s an inexcusable crime. Rapist are narcissists and quite frankly also have very low self-esteem. It may sound possible for one person to be both narcissistic and have low self-esteem at the same time but this is true and possible.
UNICEF reported in 2015 that one in four girls and one in ten boys in Nigeria had experienced sexual violence before the age of 18. According to a survey by Positive Action for Treatment Access, over 31.4 percent of girls there said that their first sexual encounter had been rape or forced sex of some kind. (Wikipedia, 2020)
Rape is mostly perpetrated by the men because of the physical advantage they have over females. Nigeria's rape culture is effectuated by religious and cultural traditions of male supremacy and dominance.
Rape is life threatening to either the male or female, thereby leading to traumas which would require them to undergo counseling for a long period of time. It's really not an easy one as it leaves a scar on them and only God can make them come back again.
For various reasons, including the fear of stigmatization, police extortion, and a lack of trust in the criminal justice system, the vast majority of sexual assault victims do not make formal reports at police stations.
When I was in secondary school, we had a seminar in my school then on sexual abuse. One of the many things the speaker said that I would never forget was "if you end up being abused, never ever think it was your fault. Don't ever blame yourself for someone else's inability to control himself or herself.
If you find yourself in an awkward position and you see the signs you will likely be raped or you are about to be raped, don't shout “HELP!” because nobody might answer but when you shout FIRE!!!! everyone will run to save you"
On this note I'll stop here and wait for your comments which will be posted next week but always remember, YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT FOR BEING RAPED! TALK TO SOMEONE YOU CAN TRUST ABOUT IT.
Till we meet again next week, I remain Chadele and this is Gist_with_Chadele.
Ciao!
